Quentin Halys faced a tough second round exit against Nikoloz Basilashvilli in the second round of Wimbledon despite playing well for most parts of the match. Having a 5-4 record on grass, Halys opted to play in the Newport event only for the second time in his career, and first time in the main draw. He is having a strong season with 40 wins at all levels (ATP and Challenger).
Alexei Popyrin was slipping down the rankings after struggling to find wins at the tour level last year. He chose to play in challenger level tournaments in order to build his game and confidence back and it worked as he already won the Bordeaux challenger and reached the semifinal of Nottingham and Ilkley Challenger on grass prior to Wimbledon.
