Retrospect on Last La Liga Season

The 2021/2022 La Liga season had plenty of exciting twists and turns to make it as exciting as usual. The biggest news was Leonel Messi leaving Barcelona for PSG before the season started. He played in La Liga for 16 seasons and left as the overall top scorer for the league and Barcelona as well.

Defending champions Atletico Madrid did not have a good start but managed to rally later in the season to finish a respectable 3rd.

Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid enjoyed his best season so far in La Liga, as he scored 17 goals and 10 assists to help Real Madrid to the league title. Real Madrid led the table for most of the season and never looked in danger of losing their lead at any given time.

Real Sociedad was the surprise package in the early stages of the season, leading the league table until week 14 when they began to slide downwards. They eventually finished 6th and managed to secure a Europa League slot.

After a poor first half of the season, the arrival of Xavi Hernandez rejuvenated Barcelona’s campaign. They went on a good run of form that eventually saw them finish 2nd. They also beat Real Madrid 4-0 in the El Clasico 2nd leg.

  • Raphinha

He was amazing playing on the right-wing for Leeds United last season in the Premier League. This saw several big clubs making offers to sign him, including Chelsea and Arsenal, but he chose Barcelona
  • Robert Lewandowski

Arguably the best forward in Europe over the last 3 seasons and the regular top scorer in the Bundesliga over the past 7 years. Bayern Munich wanted to keep him but he insisted on a move to Barcelona where he is expected to continue his goal-scoring exploits

Players to Look Out For

The new La Liga season will have some big names and exciting talents playing in various teams. Here is just a summary of some names to look out for:

  • Vinicius Junior

Last season was his breakaway season and he showed how much his attacking play has matured with crucial goals and assists to help Real Madrid win the Spanish league and Champions league
  • Ansu Fati

Injuries kept him out most of the season, but Ansu already showed flashes of why he is considered the natural successor to Messi at Barcelona. If he stays fit then we expect him to be the main man of Barcelona’s attack

La Liga’s top scorer and Real Madrid’s main man in attack. He is a clear favorite for the Balon D’or due to his performances last season and this season could be a continuation of the same
  • Joao Felix

  • Robert Lewandowski

Bundesliga’s top scorer from last season with 35 goals. He joins a vibrant Barcelona attack and he will be crucial in converting all those chances created by his new team under coach Xavi
