More information about Serie A
The Serie A has been the best football league of the world for a very long time. From the late 1980s until the mid-nineties, AC Milan with the Dutch Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten and Frank Rijkaard dominated the European club football. Italian teams won 3 titles in Europe’s premier league (Champions Cup or Champions League). Juventus Turin, Inter Mailand or SSC Napoli with the Argentinian Diego Maradona also won European titles. The best players often played in the Serie A back then. It is not surprisingly that a total of 18 times, and therefore most often, players from the Serie A were voted Europe’s Football player of the year. In the past few years, however, something changed. The Premier League, Primera Division and the German Bundesliga outstripped the Serie A. Nevertheless, the Italian division is still one of the most important and best leagues in Europe. We do not only predict Serie A matches, but also many other international Leagues – find out more on our Straight win predictions for today.
The playing mode
Ever since season 2004/05, the Serie A consists of 20 teams that determine the Italian football champion in a first and second leg. Beforehand, the Serie A only consisted of 18 teams. The teams that are placed on the last three places have to relegate to the second division, the Serie B, at the end of the season. In the event of a tie of two or more teams, the goal difference does not determine the placement, as it would do in for example the German Bundesliga. The direct comparison between the teams counts. In the battle for the championship, the usual suspects are likely to be involved: top favorite is, of course, again record champion Juventus Turin. Toughest competitors are considered to be AC Milan, SSC Napoli, Inter Milan as well as both capita.
Qualification for Uefa Competitions
The four teams placed on top of the standings at the end of the season qualify for the Champions League. All 4 teams are granted a starting place in the Champions League group stage. The fifth placed of the standings of the Serie A participate in the Europa League. Also the winner of the Coppa Italia receives a fixed ticket for the Europa League group stage. 6th and 7th placed team is playing for qualification of the Europa League. In total Italy got 7 starters.
