Long-term Serie A Pre-season Bets

As per the bookmakers, Inter Milan is the current favourite to snatch the title from their rivals AC Milan. Juventus are a close second with some excellent transfer business done in the summer to upgrade their squad and compete for the title again. With AC Milan not being able to do well in the transfer market and letting go of key midfielder Franck Kessie, they are the third favourites to win the Scudetto.

Other outright bets include markets for a top goal scorer, finish in the top 4, relegation candidates and other similar markets. Romelu Lukaku who is on loan from Chelsea at Inter Milan is the current favourite along with exciting Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic to win the Golden Boot (top goal scorer).

Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma who won the inaugural Europa Conference League last season are closely placed alongside Napoli to seal the fourth spot that guarantees Champions League football.

Three teams got promoted to Serie A from Serie B, namely, US Cremonese, US Lecce and AC Monza. Cremonese will be playing the Serie A for the first time since the club was formed, however, they are also the bookmaker’s favourite to get relegated. US Lecce and last season’s relegation battle survivors US Salernitana are the other favourites to be relegated.

We have selected our favourite outright bets for the upcoming Serie A season.

Retrospect on Last Serie A Season

In the build-up to the 2021/22 season, the Italian League had lost some global stars in Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma and then losing Antonio Conte who is one of the best managers in the game. But it turned out to be one of the most compelling title races among the top European leagues.

Inter Milan were the defending champions and was chasing their 20th title which would have earned them the second star above their club crest. However, AC Milan rose from years of spoiling to reignite one of the biggest rivalries in football. Two halves of Milan, teams who share a stadium and the black stripes on their shirt but are divided by the red and blue, produced one of the most thrilling title races in recent history.

AC Milan eventually topped the standings to win their 19th Scudetto. Interestingly, AC Milan did not have any player in the top 10 goal scorers of last season. They had a well-rounded squad with important contributions from multiple players throughout the season.

Oliver Giroud (11 Goals) and Rafael LeΓ£o (11 Goals) were their top goal contributors, however, midfield players Franck KessiΓ©, Alexis Saelemaekers and Sandro Tonali were the key driving factors in a dynamic box-to-box game style. A special mention should be made about AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez who has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world and managed to bag the goal of the season too.

Inter Milan finished second, only 2 points behind the winners, a title race that went into the last game week. Napoli and Juventus finished third and fourth respectively. Unfortunately, Cagliari, Genoa and Venezia were all relegated to Serie B.

  • Rafael Leao

The MVP last season in a title-winning team, however, experts believe this is just the beginning for the 23-year-old Portuguese player. He is projected to score 15 goals and has 10+ assists in the 2022/23 season. He is one of the fastest players and best dribblers in Europe at this moment.

  • Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba joined Juventus as a teenager and went on to win a Scudetto every season he played for Juventus. However, his time at Manchester United was torrid and returns back to Juventus to prove he remains one of the best midfielders of the current generation.
  • Romelu Lukaku

The second top scorer in the 2020/21 season, returns back to Inter Milan where he feels loved by the club supporters. Lukaku is a statistical giant and guarantees 20+ goals every season.
  • Gianluca Scamacca

The 6 ft 5 in striker has become the main striker of the Italian national team and scored 16 goals last season. The 23-year-old is a gifted player and can quickly become the best striker in the league alongside Vlahovic. Scamacca currently plays for Sassuolo but is being poached by many top clubs.
  • Tammy Abraham

The English forward joined AS Roma last season, brought in by Jose Mourinho. He has shown an incredible appetite for goals in his debut season. Abraham has a strong personality and seems to be thriving under Mourinho. We should expect a 20-25 goals season from the former Chelsea forward.
