Man City will turn their attention to the EFL Cup this midweek when they welcome a struggling Chelsea team to the Etihad in the third round of the competition. The Cityzens are locked in a neck-and-neck Premier League title race with Arsenal. They went top of the table on Saturday with a controversial last-minute penalty that earned them a 2-1 win at home over Fulham. Their stay at the top was however shortlived as Arsenal’s win on Sunday saw them reclaim that top spot.

Chelsea on the other side are a club in disarray at the moment. Defeat to Arsenal was their second loss in as many weeks, having been thrashed 4-1 by their new manager Graham Potter’s former team Brighton the previous weekend. They have now gone four straight league games without a win, a run that has seen them drop to 7th on the log. Graham Potter will try and look for solace in the cup but a visit to Etihad is a tall order.

This will be the first piece of action for both of these teams in this competition after they both got byes in the opening two rounds. City have over the years taken these cup competitions seriously and we expect the same attitude here. They will field a strong squad and could spell even more misery for the visitors.
